Above The Bar began long before there was a storefront, a label, or even a business name. It began at a kitchen counter, beside my beloved grandmother, Reva.
I remember it as if it were yesterday. My beloved grandmother, Reva, introduced me to the art of soapmaking at her kitchen counter—measuring the water, lye, and oils while I watched her every move.
Then she said something I would carry with me for the rest of my life:
“I am going to teach you how my great-grandmother taught me.”
I didn't know it then, but I wasn't simply learning how to make soap. I was receiving a piece of my family's history.

Long before Above The Bar had a name, she placed the art of soapmaking into my hands, just as it had been passed to her.
Her lessons in patience, care, and creating with intention live in every Above The Bar creation.

What began beside my grandmother at her kitchen counter became a lifelong love of creating with intention. I took what Reva placed in my hands and made it my own—blending tradition, fragrance, artistry, and care into what would eventually become Above The Bar Soapery & Gift Co.
Today, nearly every creation is handcrafted in small batches, but the heart behind them remains the same: make it with patience & love, make it with purpose, and make it worthy of the person receiving it.
